Provenance: the artist
Salustiano's work is guided by the emotions of the spectator, not his own. The Beautiful, troubling, and deep creations by this Spanish artist have found their way to galleries, museums, and art fairs around the world. He puts a spin on traditional portraits with his red images and the fusion of renaissance rigor with the perfection found in the norms of advertising.
The beauty, the almost mathematical perfection, and the minimalist composition of Salustiano's works are quick to instill emotions in the spectator. This artist does not believe in pamphlet-art. He feels that our surroundings lack beautiful messages. Due to the saturation of visual stimuli, he believes that artists often create impact images to claim the spectator's attention. However, when a wall is covered with screams, it is sometimes preferable to find a whisper.
Salustiano currently participates in "The Missing Peace,Artists Consider the Dalai Lama" This world-traveling exhibit seeks to support the Tibetan people. It is comprised by works of 88 artists, among which are Bill Viola, Anish Kapoor, Marina Abramovich and Richard Avedon. This exhibit was called together by two entities that share the intention of protecting the cultural and religious identity of Tibet. They are the Dalai Lama Foundation and the C100 One Hundred Committee for Tibet. The latter was created by Nobel winners, Presidents of Nation States, artists, and intellectuals.
Salustiano's Reencarcancion was selected as the emblematic work of the show and was featured on the cover of the catalogue, on the publicity poster, and the invitations. It is a portrait of a Chinese Girl who seems to observe the spectator with disturbingsweetness. The portrait hides two particular stories: the painter's, which imagines the Dalai Lama's reincarnation in a girl born in Tibet's invading country; and the girl's, as she is a victim of Chinese politics on family planning, and a culture that discriminates on the birth of women.
Salustiano is actually exhibiting his work in New York. During the last few years he has shown his work in museums such as the Fowler Museum in Los Angeles; Museo Vostell-Malpartida de Caceres; LUMA Museum -Loyola University Museum of Artin Chicago; and in the RUBIN MUSEUM in New York.
