THE MOORE SPACE

THE HURRICANE PROJECTS I: OUTBURSTS OF ENERGY
September 8-November 1, 2007

THE HURRICANE PROJECTS I: OUTBURSTS OF ENERGY will be on view at The Moore Space from September 8-November 1, 2007. The Hurricane Projects is the first of a new annual series presented by The Moore Space to highlight projects by individual artists’ works, which although meant to be seen as separate and independent, are grouped together in loose and subtle thematic or stylistic clusters. HURRICANE PROJECTS I, which includes work by: Susan Lee Chun, Dara Friedman, Fernando Ortega, Julien Rosefeldt, and the TM Sisters explores real and possible bodily excursions. There will be an opening reception on September 8 from 7-10pm.

Julien Rosefeldt’s Stunned Man (2004) is a double projection video of the re-enactment and antics of a stunt man and incidents that befall him. Also, highly sculptural in its presentation, Dara Friedman’s film creatively incorporates an elaborate looper in a work depicting the artist destroying a room in reverse. The TM Sisters’s new interactive video is produced with digital images inviting the viewer to participate in the creation of the work. Aida Ruilova and Susan Lee Chun both present single channel videos in which they use their bodies in expressive physical and emotional ways. Fernando Ortega’s Sin titulo/Untitled (flyelectrocutor) (2003) is a giant “fly trap” in human scale that, every time an insect is trapped, the power supply in the space is cut off causing the lights to shut down. Two performances will be presented through the duration of the exhibition: the TM Sisters: “Things Will End Before They Start” on Sat, Sept 8 at 9pm and Susan Lee Chun’s “Along Came Sioux” on Saturday, October 13, 7-10pm.

The Moore Space is dedicated to presenting international contemporary art forms. It will achieve this through an experimental program of cross-disciplinary exhibitions, performances, artists and curators residencies and public programs which reflect the state of contemporary art today: new forms, new voices and new thought. Exhibition sponsors include: Craig Robins and Rosa de la Cruz; Eugenio Lopez/La Coleccion Jumex; Miami Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade Mayor and the Board of County Commissioners; Etant Donnes: French-American Fund for Contemporary Art and the Consulate General of France in Miami.
